A 5-Star Hotel Investment Grade

I just got back from a legendary week-long vacation in Siquijor, an island paradise in the Philippines for a family reunion / fiesta. Now it's back to business.

Meanwhile, do you know of any news regarding the latest investment upgrade of the Philippine economy?Because that was apparently the only news I cared about while I was enjoying my exile on an island with my family and closest relatives.

If you are a proud investor of the Philippine stock market and the economy in general, you would surely love the news that the country has been upgraded to Investment Grade just last week by Standard and Poor's, an international credit rating firm.

According to Rappler, "An investment grade means the Philippines, as a borrowing country, has a strong ability to pay its debt. This lowers its borrowing costs, generating savings, which may be spend for social services. For Filipinos, it means better education and health care, and affordable loans for major purchases."

So what does this mean for an ordinary Filipino with little to no knowledge about investing in the Philippine economy?

Reading above is nosebleed to an individual who is not used to reading business news and understanding some financial jargon.

Like I said at the start of this post, I just came from vacation.

What would you expect when you are on vacation?

Of course, there's the excellent hotel accommodation. Fine dining on the town's specialty foods and drinks. Bonding time with family and friends.

Let's say you are off to your own vacation as well. It's summer time so the time is right to plan your getaway from all the business ventures and jobs you are in right now. On top of that, you have all the savings in the world to splurge so long as you could have fun and get a nice return of experience on your expenses.

One factor that can make or break your lengthy vacation is the accommodation. Where you would stay. How much would a night's stay be. How many people would fit in. Most especially, how nice the room, loft, cottage (or whatever you may call it) is.

Unknown to you of the place you are going, you seek advice from a travel agent, and you are given two choices to stay: an ordinary hotel with somewhat complete amenities and affordable based on your budget, or a 5-star hotel with an international reputation where celebrities and other famous personalities reside, a complete set of amenities that makes the hotel stand out as a top tourist destination.

With the money on hand and the willingness to make the most out of the vacation, where do you stay?

As for me, I would go for the 5-star hotel.

For one, it has the reputation that only a few hotels in the world can match. It is a safe haven where tourists can stay in and have fun. They get their money's worth because of the accommodation that is simply world-class. I will no doubt check in one of those hotels someday on my next getaway adventure!

So how is this related to the investment grade?

The tourist is the foreign investor. Like most investors do, they scout around countries in the world that are good places to put in money for growth and expansion of the nation. As tourists, they would also look for hotel accommodations that are world-class and give them the luxury that no other hotel can match while they are on vacation.

The Philippines' Investment Grade is like upgrading the country from an ordinary hotel to an extraordinary 5-star hotel. The country becomes visible to the eyes of the investors as they see a lot of potential and the safety and security in investing in the country. Thus, the country becomes a top destination for investors to put in more money and create successive progress in the Philippines.

Foreign investors are starting to pour into the Philippines for growth potential. Unfortunately, only a few Filipinos are enjoying the ride of the Philippine economy. By investing in the stock market, you, too, can get along on the road to Philippine prosperity. Don't you worry, though, because with the investment upgrade, it is truly the time to declare that Investing is More Fun in the Philippines!

See you at the top!
